AOL, in an effort to make internet browsing as pleasant as possible, has it's graphics options set to compress images. Doing so allows for faster viewing of web sites, but can often result in "ugly" sites or pages. Images are sometimes garbled or blurry, and with design factors being crucial in today's websites, you may miss out on important notices or even worse, miss entire areas! You can change these options at any time, but we suggest that for a
richer web experience, you set the options to display graphics as they were meant to be viewed. (In other words, ProMiles.com is pretty ugly with Image Compression turned on!!)
Following these instructions
may slow web page load times.
If your modem/connection is slower than 28.8, this is not recommended.
If you have a 56k or faster connection, this is
highly recommended!
Setting your graphic options in AOL:
- At the top of your AOL window, you should see a button marked "Settings". Click it, then click "Preferences" - This will open the preferences panel.
- Click "Internet Properties (WWW)" - this will open the AOL Internet Properties panel.
- Click the top right tab marked "Web Graphics"
- Select "Never Compress Graphics"
- Click the button marked "OK" at the bottom of the panel.
- Close the Preferences panel, reload ProMiles.com (F5 on
your keyboard), and you are set!
If you follow these instructions, you will be able to experience ProMiles.com (and the rest of the internet) as it was intended to be viewed. The difference in page load times is not severe, and web pages will now look much better to you! Of course, this is all a matter of personal preference.
Tech Tip: Although AOL's browser is currently based on Microsoft's Internet Explorer technology, many experts still recommend that you use a "stand-alone" browser such as Internet Explorer,
Mozilla or Netscape 6.x,
7 in conjunction with your AOL Account.
Feedback: We would appreciate any AOL User feedback so that we may further enhance our products for AOL usage. Take a few minutes, and send us an e-mail with your comments and suggestions.
